Last updated: November 24, 2025
Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Context Repo ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our web application at contextrepo.com and the Context Repo Chrome Extension. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
Information We Collect
Context Repo Web Application
- Account information (email address, name) provided during registration via Clerk authentication
- Documents and prompts you create or upload to your workspace
- URLs you submit for scraping and the resulting scraped content
- Usage data to improve our services
Context Repo Chrome Extension
- API Key: Your Context Repo API key, which you manually enter and is stored locally in Chrome's extension storage on your device
- Tab URL: The URL of the current browser tab, only when you actively click the extension icon and choose to capture the page
How We Use Your Information
Web Application
- To provide and maintain your Context Repo workspace
- To process URLs through our Firecrawl-powered scraping pipeline
- To enable search, chat, and collaboration features
- To authenticate your account and secure your data
Chrome Extension
- Your API key is used solely to authenticate requests to the Context Repo API
- Tab URLs are sent to our API only when you explicitly click to capture a page
- We do not collect browsing history, and the extension does not track which pages you visit
Data Storage and Security
- Web application data is stored securely in our Convex database infrastructure
- The Chrome Extension stores your API key locally using Chrome's secure extension storage API - it never leaves your device except when making authenticated API requests
- All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption
- We do not sell your personal information to third parties
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate Context Repo:
- Clerk: Authentication and user management
- Convex: Database and backend infrastructure
- Firecrawl: Web scraping service for URL content extraction
Each of these services has their own privacy policies governing their handling of data.
Your Rights and Choices
- You can delete your API key from the Chrome Extension at any time by opening the extension and clearing the key field
- You can delete documents from your Context Repo workspace at any time
- You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us
- You can uninstall the Chrome Extension at any time, which removes all locally stored data
Chrome Extension Permissions
The Context Repo Chrome Extension requests minimal permissions:
- activeTab: Required to read the URL of the current tab when you click the extension icon. This permission only grants access when you actively interact with the extension.
- storage: Required to securely store your API key locally so you don't need to re-enter it each time.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
